Just About Write

A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it is to be God."
—Sidney Sheldon

Creativity can seem innate, but like many things, it is actually a delicate balance of nature and nurture. Creative thinking requires complex cognition yet is completely distinct from the thinking process. You must put your brain in overdrive and be dauntless enough, not to take the path of least resistance, while incubating novel ideas.

MI Poetry Slam

Team Size: Solo.

You're never going to kill storytelling, because it's built into the human plan. We come with it.
—Margaret Atwood

They say storytelling is awe-inspiring, we say its just too mainstream. So why not do something different— poetry slam, where you bring your poems alive through performance. Take the audience on a heart-rending, emotional, beatific or a hilarious journey and keep them engaged throughout.

Rules and Regulations

Team Size: Solo

Round 1: Finals

Eliminations are to be conducted on the ground during the fest, December 26-29 in Bombay, India. Participants will recite a poem up to 3 minutes in front of a live audience, either from memory or reading from a paper.

Judging Criteria: Audience reaction and engagement; depth of content; quality of presentation; USP (Unique selling point)

Note: Delivery of the poem is as important as the content.

Round 2: Finals

The participants who cleared the eliminations will be asked to prepare a poem of upto 4 minutes, to perform in front of a live audience, either from memory or reading from a paper.

The final round will also include a Q&A session by the judge, right after the performance, for which the participant should respond with a poem, haiku or a short verse.

Judging Criteria: Same as above.

Rules and Regulations:

The poems must be an original composition.

No props, costume or musical instruments. Including overly dramatic clothing.

All styles are welcomed and encouraged: a capella hip-hop, theatrical monologues, literary poetry, sound poetry, dub poetry, rants, haiku, power raps, etc. Whatever you would have fun doing!

Decision taken by the judge is absolute and binding.

The audience is encouraged to influence the judges with applause or boos.

The score keeper keeps track of the length of the performance. If the poem goes longer than allotted minutes, there's a ten second grace period, after which the poet will suffer a .5 penalty for every 10 seconds.

Use of obscenity/profanity is not allowed as long as there are no direct implications.

Since the participants are called upon in random order, each is required to be present at least 5 minutes prior to the start.

Prizes- 1st Prize - $100
